In 2016 a young boy called Gibson Kawago was showing a wedding ceremony video to his grandmother from his mobile phone in Ibumila Village before the phone ran out of battery at the middle. The village not being electrified, he had to travel 31 miles for recharging before coming back the following day to finish watching. On 14th February 2016, two days before his birthday the boy lost his beloved grandma. Motivated by the loss and being passionate to save his village, the boy made a solar power bank out of trashed materials in his father’s garage. Being an environmentalist and circular economy enthusiast, he started making durable and affordable battery powered products from recycled lithium-ion batteries. Having been working from his father’s garage that was the beginning of the “Wanted Garage” now known as WAGA.
